55 Universitat Catalana d'Estiu celebrará un evento con Aragonès y expresidentes para honrar a Pau Casals
Junqueras abrirá y Vilagrà cerrará una edición con muchos actos centrados en la lengua
JUNQUERAS TO INAUGURATE THE 55TH UCE EDITION WITH VILAGRÀ TO CLOSE THE EVENT, FOCUSING ON LANGUAGE

The 55th Universitat Catalana d'Estiu (UCE), which will take place from August 17 to 23 in Prada de Conflent (France), will bring together President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, former Catalan presidents Jordi Pujol, José Montilla, Carles Puigdemont --if his immunity is maintained-- and Quim Torra, as well as the Abbot of Montserrat, Manel Gasch, in one of its acts of tribute to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Pau Casals.
Under the theme of this edition, "The uniqueness and democracy in times of globalization," this event dedicated to Pau Casals will be held on August 21 and it is expected that Aragonès and all former presidents of the Generalitat will participate, as explained by sources from the organization to Europa Press.
The President of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, will be part of the inauguration of this edition along with the Minister of Health, Manel Balcells, the mayor of Prada, Yves Delcor, and the president of the UCE Foundation, Joandomènec Ros, with a lecture on "The Exile of Presidents Lluís Companys, Josep Irla and Josep Tarradellas."
Language will be a central theme in many of the planned events, including discussions on university language policy with representatives from the Catalan government, the University of Barcelona, and the University of Valencia. Another event will address the situation and future of the Catalan language in schools, with teachers from Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands.
The President of the Parliament, Anna Erra, and the president of the philological section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, Nicolau Dols, will delve into the figure of Pompeu Fabra on the 75th anniversary of his death. The Bishop of Mallorca, Sebastià Taltavull, and the Director General of Religious Affairs of the Generalitat, Carles Armengol, will discuss "Language and Church" on the 20th anniversary of the deaths of the Bishops of Menorca and Solsona (Lleida), Antoni Deig.
Another event will delve into the 50th anniversary of the Prada Manifesto, and mayors Nicolau Garcia from Elna (France), Ivan Sànchez from Berga (Barcelona), Miquel Oliver from Manacor (Mallorca), and Antoni Francés from Alcoi (Valencian Community) will lead an event on "Municipalities and Nation Building."
The Minister of Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal, will discuss "The University and the EU" with the rectors of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Daniel Crespo, the Open University of Catalonia, Àngels Fitó, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Javier Lafuentes, among others.
"El CatalanGate: Political Persecution" will be the focus of another planned event with the president of ANC, Dolors Feliu, former Vice President of the Parliament, Josep Costa, and computer engineer Josep Maria Ganyet.
The closure of the event will be conducted by the Minister of Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, along with UCE President Jordi Casassas and the Vice President of Xarxa Vives d'Universitats, Oriol Amat.
Prior to the closing ceremony, Josefina Salord will receive the Canigó 2023 Award, and this edition will also feature the first Joan Artur Roura Awards in two categories: research and music. The selected proposals will be announced at the end of this year's edition.
